I removed all the suspension, fuel tanks, exhaust, fuel lines, cables to the engine etc. I knew to remove the engine the engine would have to be lifted really high to clear the car. To help, I lowered the car as low as I could by sitting it on planks of wood on two wheel dollies. I bought a 2-tonne folding engine crane from Northern Tool + Equipment for less than £200. Using a lifting strap wrapped around the front cylinder head of the engine the crane lifted the engine straight out with no problem at all. I modified an engine cradle, also bought from Northern Tool, to sit the engine on.
