Horns

Tuesday, 15 February 2011

I was surprised that the horns were made of aluminium. I had assumed that they would be plastic. It looks like a candy red paint was sprayed directly onto the aluminium giving quite a striking appearance but obviously not offering much weather protection. The horns were badly corroded. I stripped the black overspray and red paint off the horns and hose with Nitromores. I then buffed the corrosion off with a wire wheel on the bench grinder, sanded the horns down with finer coarses of wet and dry, painted with acid etch primer, chrome effect paint and a few coats of candy red. The result is pretty good but I got some paint runs on the inside of the trumpet of the big horn which I am dissapointed with. Overall, the horns now look a lot better than they did though.
